About Summer Pharmacy Institute

The Summer Pharmacy Institute (SPI) allows students to explore different areas of the pharmacy profession, including full day workshops devoted to current trends, research, and activities in each of the following focus areas: Hospital, Ambulatory Care, Industry/Research & Development, Community, Rural Healthcare, and Professionalism in the Field. SPI attendees are typically on site from 9-5 PM each day.

Applying for the Program

Applications for the summer 2026 program is now open. Once you submit your application, notification of your status will be sent on a rolling basis beginning in January. If you are selected to participate in SPI 2026, you will have a non-refundable registration fee of $300 to submit in order to secure your spot in the program. Non-refundable deposit is not required at the time of application.

Applicants must be one of the following:

  • Current undergraduate students who have not yet been admitted to a PharmD program/are not currently applying to a PharmD program
  • Students who may have already completed their undergraduate degree but who have not yet been admitted to a PharmD program/are not currently applying to a PharmD program

It is highly recommended that applicants have taken undergraduate level coursework in biology, chemistry, and/or anatomy & physiology, as well as have a strong interest in the pharmacy career field. Please note: you are not eligible to participate in SPI 2026 if you plan to apply to a PharmD program during the current admissions cycle.

The cost to attend this institute includes a t-shirt, lab activity materials, hands-on learning materials for each day, and lunch.

UIC Retzky College of Pharmacy will be covering partial costs for housing at a local hotel in the Rockford area. More details about housing will be provided upon receipt of your application.
